Day 01
Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your guide, who will assist with your transfer to Colombo, Sri Lanka’s vibrant capital city.
After checking into your hotel, embark on an exciting city tour of Colombo, a bustling metropolis that blends old-world charm with modern attractions.
Explore the colonial architecture of the Old Parliament and the charming streets of Fort and Pettah, where vibrant markets sell everything from spices to textiles.
Visit the Gangaramaya Temple, a spiritual oasis in the heart of the city, and take in the beauty of Galle Face Green, a scenic promenade along the Indian Ocean.
You’ll also pass by modern landmarks and the upscale neighbourhoods of Cinnamon Gardens.
Overnight stay in Colombo.
After breakfast, travel to the sacred city of Anuradhapura, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Once the capital of ancient Sri Lanka, Anuradhapura is filled with centuries-old ruins, sacred temples, and stupas that tell the story of Sri Lanka’s early civilisation.
Highlights include the Sri Maha Bodhi, a sacred fig tree grown from a cutting of the tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment, and Ruwanwelisaya, a magnificent stupa dating back to 140 BC.
As you explore the ancient stupas and temples, your guide will share fascinating stories of Sri Lanka’s Buddhist heritage.
Stay three nights in Habarana.
After an early breakfast, head to the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress, also known as the ‘Lion Rock’.
Climbing this massive 200-metre high fortress will reward you with stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
Sigiriya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was built by King Kashyapa in the 5th century as a royal palace and defensive fortress.
Discover the remains of its palace, the beautiful royal gardens, and the famous Sigiriya frescoes, a series of life-sized paintings of celestial maidens.
In the afternoon, journey to Polonnaruwa, the second ancient capital of Sri Lanka.
This city is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and boasts impressive ruins from the 11th and 12th centuries.
Explore the Royal Palace, the Gal Vihara, and other impressive temples and statues that reflect the architectural brilliance of this period.
The giant stone Buddha statues carved into cliffs are particularly awe-inspiring.
Start the day with an immersive village experience in Habarana.
Travel by bullock cart through lush paddy fields and take a scenic catamaran ride on the lake.
Enjoy a home-cooked meal in a traditional mud house, providing a unique insight into rural Sri Lankan life.
In the afternoon, visit the famous Dambulla Cave Temples, another UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This complex of five caves contains over 150 stunning statues of Buddha and intricate cave paintings that date back over 2,000 years.
The vibrant murals and serene atmosphere make Dambulla one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Sri Lanka.
After breakfast, travel to Kandy, stopping en route at a spice garden in Matale.
Sri Lanka is known for its spices, and here you’ll learn about the cultivation and use of local spices like cinnamon, cardamom, and nutmeg.
You can even indulge in a traditional Ayurvedic massage using herbal oils.
Upon arrival in Kandy, explore the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, one of the most important Buddhist shrines in the world.
This temple houses a tooth of the Buddha, and pilgrims from all over the world visit to pay their respects.
Afterwards, visit the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, known for their collection of orchids and giant palm trees.
End the day by attending a cultural show, featuring traditional Sri Lankan dance and music.
Overnight stay in Kandy.
This morning, transfer to Peradeniya Railway Station to embark on one of the world’s most scenic train rides, travelling from Kandy to Ella.
This journey will take you through rolling green hills, lush tea plantations, and mist-covered mountains.
Watch as the landscape changes dramatically, offering endless photo opportunities.
Upon arrival in Ella, you’ll have time to explore this picturesque town, known for its cooler climate and relaxed vibe.
Visit a local tea factory to see how Sri Lankan tea is produced or take a leisurely walk through the surrounding hills.
Stay two nights in Ella.
After breakfast, explore some of Ella’s most famous natural attractions.
Start with a visit to the Nine Arches Bridge, an architectural marvel set amidst lush greenery.
Then, hike to Little Adam’s Peak, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of Ella Gap and the surrounding mountains.
This easy hike is perfect for taking in the stunning natural scenery.
Afterwards, visit Ravana Falls, a majestic waterfall named after the legendary king from the Ramayana epic.
The waterfall is a popular spot for locals and visitors alike to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding wilderness.
After breakfast, transfer to Colombo Airport via the southern expressway.
Or continue to one of Sri Lanka’s idyllic beach destinations if you prefer to extend your stay.
